San Mateo Elder Abuse Attorney: Fraud and Scams

Another elder abuse case in the San Mateo County

A businessman convinced a 92-year-old woman to invest more than $144,000 in his company. Apparently, he used the money to pay the rent for his office and to go on vacations. However, the businessman pleaded not guilty to elder abuse charge.

The woman’s nephew discovered the fraud after investigating her financial records to understand her increased expenses and the cost of her care. Directly after this discovery, he alerted the authorities of San Mateo County, in California. Moreover, the businessman was a friend of the woman’s for more than 15 years. This is the perfect example of an elder abuse case with one of the victim’s friend is the abuser.

In California, most of the abusers of an elder are the friends or the family members of the victim. However, there is less abuse when the elder is socially surrounded by friends or family. Like for example in this case, the nephew who took care of his older aunt. If the abuse has already been carried out, however, it is important to contact a California elder abuse attorney who can help.
