Costa Mesa Man Suspected of Physical Elder Abuse in Connection With Death of Elderly Mother

ATTORNEY NEWSLETTER

A Costa Mesa man has been arrested in connection with the death of his elderly mother inside a home they shared.  His elderly mother was 80 years old.  The Costa Mesa man has been charged with physical elder abuse and manslaughter.  Neighbors claim that the Costa Mesa man acted strangely at times.  California physical elder abuse attorneys remind the public that elder abuse is a problem that is growing in scope.

In this case, the defendant is a 47 year old Costa Mesa man who was supposed to be caring for his elderly mother.  However, the police found her lying on a bathroom floor lying in her own urine, where she had been for two days.  She was treated for open sores, dehydration, and other medical conditions.  She died in the hospital the day after police found her.  Orange County physical elder abuse attorneys warn that the mistreatment of elders is a continuing problem.  California physical elder abuse attorneys say that if the allegations are proved true that this is a clear cut case of physical elder abuse.

When investigators entered the home, they found it to be untidy and cluttered.  The defendant informed investigators that his mother was combative and that her care took up most of his time.  While investigating the case, police learned that the defendant would sometimes physically restrain his elderly mother, including tying her to a chair.  California physical elder abuse attorneys warn that physically restraining an elder is dangerous.

According to neighbors, the elder victim was sometimes seen wandering the neighborhood alone.  Since she suffered from dementia, this caused concern among the neighbors.  The defendant is facing charges of physical elder abuse and involuntary manslaughter for the way he allegedly treated his mother.
