California Launches Senior Protection Website

Good news for seniors who seek information about how to avoid financial elder abuse: last week, the California Department of Insurance launched a new website called “Senior Gateway” that educates seniors about personal and financial neglect and abuse. The website, at www.seniors.ca.gov, includes helpful information and tips about how to spot symptoms of elder abuse and how to avoid becoming a victim in the first place.

This website is both a recognition of the prevalence of elder abuse in California and a step in the right direction towards eliminating it. Elders and their loved ones, advocates, and caretakers should remain informed of the various risks posed to elders in today’s society. The website includes tips and information about caregiver abuse, long-term care insurance, annuities fraud, and financial abuse in California.
