Many elder physical abuse cases arise from unnoticed and uniformed treatment from health care centers. According to Orange County Register, the attorney general of California filed a lawsuit against five health care facilities (in Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Fullerton and Orange) operated by Skilled Healthcare, alleging treatments of malnutrition, dehydration and overmedication (Gordon Gibb). The filed complaint had similar alleged elder physical abuse complaints with another pending litigation Skilled Healthcare. Overall, Skilled Healthcare operates 20 facilities across the state with 2,360 beds (Gibbs). Alas, the health care center lawsuit was settled before it could go to trial with Skilled Healthcare agreeing to provide and fund additional supervision at its five health care facilities but not admitting any wrongdoing on their part.

Evans Law Firm, Inc. recommends inquiring about the procedural guidelines and requirements that a nursing home and/or assisted living facility follows when taking care of your loved ones in order to avoid physical elder abuse as much as possible.
