If you are a soon-to-retire federal employees here in California be careful: you may be invited to a “counseling session” or seminar hosted by FEFA, which stands for Federal Employees First Alliance. Don’t be misled: FEFA is not affiliated with the federal government; it is FEFA, LLC, a private, for-profit limited liability company. The FEFA sessions are sometimes held in union halls, hotels or other spaces accommodating large groups. Hosts of these FEFA seminars may be insurance agents connected with FEFA and licensed to sell life insurance and annuities. Flyers for these FEFA counseling sessions talk about counseling employees regarding their federal 401k plan, known as the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). However, FEFA counseling sessions may be a gateway to selling attendees annuities or other insurance products
