The Defective Drug Problem

Millions of people in the United States rely on prescription and non-prescription drugs to treat a multitude of health problems and medical conditions. Users of these drugs rely on the pharmaceutical companies to produce effective and safe products. However, the truth is that many patients who have used these products have been injured by, or died from, adverse reactions and irreversible side effects. Many pharmaceutical companies are hesitant to recall dangerous drugs and others release new drugs on the market without sufficient safety research. A few companies have even knowingly concealed information from the FDA about possible safety issues with their products.

Recent Recalls And Safety Warnings

Over the past several years, the media has widely reported on recalls and warnings issued concerning defective and possibly dangerous pharmaceuticals. A few examples are listed below:

Accutane: is a synthetic form of vitamin A used to treat serious cases of acne. The primary manufacturer pulled this drug from the market in 2009 due to numerous lawsuits. Heparin: is an anticoagulant, or blood thinner, used to prevent blood clots in patients. The drug was recalled after causing serious and deadly adverse reactions.
